Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Kalories

Do I need to create an account?

No. Kalories does not require registration or an account. Your data is stored on your device and syncs automatically with your private iCloud account across all your devices.

Is it free?

Yes. You can log foods, track meals, and view your nutritional summary for free. The optional subscription unlocks unlimited custom foods and preparations.

Does it work offline?

Yes. All main features work offline. iCloud sync and the barcode scanner require a connection, but meal logging, data viewing, and voice input work offline.

Which devices is it available on?

iPhone and Apple Watch. Requires iOS 17 or later. Also includes a home screen widget.

How does the barcode scanner work?

Point the camera at a packaged product's barcode. The app looks up its nutritional values on Open Food Facts (an open database with millions of products) and lets you save it to your personal database.

What is the AI photo recognition?

Take a photo of a food or dish and the app finds visual matches among the foods and preparations you have saved with photos. It's useful for quickly logging dishes you've already created.

Can I share my foods with other people?

Yes. You can share any food or preparation as a .kal file via AirDrop, email, messaging, or any other method. The other person opens it and it imports directly into their app.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Kalories has no servers of its own. Your data is stored locally on your device and syncs only through your private iCloud account. There are no ads, no tracking, and no analysis of your data.
